Top Ten Countdown: Number Two
We are down to TWO days left, which means top ten-countdown number two! My second favorite memory and thing to come from this year abroad is Amavi Studio. To many you might think that Amavi Studio is just something for me to do to pass the time while being in China, but it is exactly the opposite in all honesty.
Before I came to China, I knew I wasn’t being completely fulfilled by my career goals and it was unsatisfying to feel that way. When we arrived in China I had the decision to make: teach English (which I am definitely NOT a teacher, I mean I am probably the most shy person ever!) or I could start taking my designs more seriously. I had been freelancing for sometime and knew I had the passion and skills for it, so I took the leap and started Amavi Studio.
Since the day I made the decision to start, I hit the ground running. I made a business plan, marketing plan, started to expand my knowledge about what it takes to own a small business + put in the WORK. And since that day I have been working my booty off non-stop trying to make this whole small business thing work.
To be completely honest, it has not been easy. There have been times that I wanted to quit, walk away and try something different. But in my heart I knew it would be the wrong decision for me to do that. There is just something about using my creativity and passion to make a living; it is so fulfilling and meaningful to me. I can honestly say this year has been one of the hardest years for my career, but by far the most rewarding.
Looking back now at when I made the decision to start Amavi Studio, I don’t think I had any idea how much I would truly enjoy this journey and process. And now, I don’t think I will ever go back! This drive comes from deep down within me. To me, a job is more than just an income. I want to be fulfilled by the work I am doing. I want to feel that I am making a difference. I want the freedom to make my own decisions in life + be able to explore and adventure when I need to. I truly believe that we shouldn’t just work our way through life until we reach retirement and then begin ‘living’. I want to feel alive each and every day. And honestly, I have never felt more alive than I have this year. I have taken more adventures than I ever have, helped more people than I ever thought I would + seen myself grow personally and professionally than I knew was possible.
This year has beyond amazing in all aspects of life. I know I will walk away from these 365+ days with a new appreciation for life, culture, + my career.
I want to thank you all for following along with my journey with Amavi Studio. Your support means the world to me. We when return home Amavi Studio will still be my full-time job and I will do whatever it takes keep this lifestyle + career path growing.
